Gardner homeowner asks what color should I paint my home?

A Gardner homeowner called me during the Labor Day Weekend and said that he plans on selling his home next spring. In preparing to sell his home next spring he knows that he needs to do some minor repairs and paint the exterior. He plans on painting this fall and wanted to know what the best color to paint his home.

The current color is a yellow with a brown trim. It actually looks nice; however, the yellow is very personalized and the brown defines the home. I suggested painting the body of the home a neutral color like an off white or biege and the trim two shades lighter. The neutral color will appeal to more buyer prospects. Painting the trim a lighter color will help make the home appear larger and will allow the new homeowner to change the looks inexpensively by painting the trim after closing.

I suggested driving through a new home subdivision in the area to get color choices. In some cases, the subdivision office has the paint information or has access of who does have it.
