Do Kansas City Home Sellers Have a Clue?

This weekend I showed a couple buyers homes. In the less then ideal conditions of 4 degree temperatures, the last thing I wanted to encounter is being in the cold longer. By the end of the day, my feet felt like they were frozen. When I walked the pain went up my leg. My clients, I’m sure felt no better. We chose to end the day earlier then planned because of my client’s lack of feeling in her left leg.

The day started with us viewing 14 preowned homes for sale. Seemed like an easy task until we started out on our tour. Out of the 14 homes for sale, 5 homeowners called to cancel the showings due to it being inconvenient to show. All five wanted homeowners wanted us to work the showings around their schedule. Some even wanted us to come back the next day or next week while they were at work. I’m not sure why the homeowners didn’t notify us about the change of plans the day before when I scheduled the showings.

Out of the 7 we still had scheduled  to show, most either had snow and ice on their walkways or their front doors or lockboxes were frozen shut. Of the homes with ice in front, we walked really slow to avoid seeing a orthopedic surgeon. Of the homes with frozen lockboxes and doors, we worked hard to get the ice away so we could enter the homes. I had to take the lockbox to my car on a couple of homes so I could use the heat from my heater to warm up the lockbox. This seemed to take an hour, but in reality it was probably 15 minutes. The amount of time we could of viewed another home.

At the end of the day my buyer decided to start looking at new homes for sale. That was definitely a change of pace. Driveways were cleared of ice and snow, doors were freed of ice, lockboxes were hung with care to avoid ice and we had no homeowners object to us viewing. What a change of pace.

I had problems getting into homes this weekend also. Many of the North facing homes had frozen lockboxes.
