K-State and KU Unbeaten in Big 12 Play Tangle This Next Week! My Predictions . . .
The freshmen of K-State take on the veterans of KU this next week. KU has demolished their opponents. K-State is just getting the kinks worked out on their young machine and starting to show their strength. As a Kansas native I grew up watching the K-State - KU battles. I would circle the basketball games on the calendar. My friends and I would meet at a friends house and root for our Jayhawks to pounce on the cats from little Manhattan. All of that changed when K-State won my heart and I attended Kansas State University.
Sure my friends and I would meet. More times then not, it was at the games. Somehow, one of the guys would pull through and get tickets. I remember the days that you would camp out in the freezing cold to get tickets for the gang. Ahearn was rockin and little Manhattan was in a partying mood. If the game was in Lawrence, you would see caravans of cat backers heading to Lawrence to get a chance to get into the game. If that didn’t work out you would rent a chair at a local tavern with your Jayhawk buddies and cheer for your favorite team. Typically I met my friends at the Wheel. Is it still around? Where do Jayhawks go now?
The last couple decades my KU buddies have been on the upper side of the basketball game thrashings. I have definitely been on the loosing side of me buddy bets. Many of the area restaurants expect to see me after a K-State loss with one of my KU buddies. Hopefully, this year I can be on the upside of the thrashing.
My perspective on a K-State wins over Kansas. 1) Beasley and Walker play their A-game. 2) The Wildcats defense plays their A-game. 3) Rebound and most important 4) The Sixth Man- Get LOUD like we did in Ahern. The first 5 minutes of a game, you couldn't hear your neighbor talk. Before the game started it took 10 minutes or more to clean the rubber chickens off of the rafters and live chickens off of the floor. The key-don't let Bill Self communicate changes to his veteran players. I like Bill and the Jayhawks. I just like the Wildcats better. They are smart, good and play as a team.
My prediction: Kansas State Wildcats 82- Kansas Jayhawks 76. It will not surprise me that Beasley and Walker go wild and do something that has never been seen on ESPN or YouTube. Although I’ grew up rooting for the Jayhawks, I’m a Wildcat now and I’m rooting for a Wildcats victory. Be prepared buddies, you are buying this time. No matter how you view it, it is nice to see my two favorite teams on top in the Big 12.
To Jason, I’m pre-ordering the Gert’s Chicken Hawk sandwich with Cheese Soup for Thursday.
What is your prediction?
