OLATHE, Kansas Bank News. -- Security Savings Bank is seeking to have the government buy a stake in the bank.
The Olathe, KS. bank's president, Michael Copeland, sent a letter to its customers about the move. It said the Olathe bank is asking for help not out of necessity, but to provide a boost to its ability to serve customers.

Copeland said the federal funds would help the smaller bank compete for business with the big banks that have been bailed out.
Copeland said the bank has applied for federal money, but it may decide that it doesn't need it.
Security Savings Bank has lost nearly $4 million during the past two quarters.
