Olathe, Kansas Bank News - Security Savings Bank is Seeking Goverment to Buy a Stake

OLATHE, Kansas Bank News. -- Security Savings Bank is seeking to have the government buy a stake in the bank.

The Olathe, KS. bank's president, Michael Copeland, sent a letter to its customers about the move. It said the Olathe bank is asking for help not out of necessity, but to provide a boost to its ability to serve customers.

Copeland said the federal funds would help the smaller bank compete for business with the big banks that have been bailed out.

Copeland said the bank has applied for federal money, but it may decide that it doesn't need it.

Security Savings Bank has lost nearly $4 million during the past two quarters.

This is my opinion about this story.  Obviously I do not have all the facts so forgive me in-advance where I error.  But should the Security Savings Bank get an advantage over other local small banks who have not requested a bailout.

I say that Capitol Federal is also a small bank and it is not asking to be bailed out.  I feel that Security Savings Bank should be held responsible for their own bad business practices of selling bad Loans.  Security Savings Bank is made up of incompetent bank mangers from previously troubled banks.

Don Bell makes cookie cutter houses that look like they have been shoved in a cookie jar.

The people involved are supposed to be Christians and why are they be asking money from people who are not as wealthy as they are for are.

If its about saving the bank from fizzling out, then why not opt for federal money. Afterall everyone is hard hit by the recession and a government money is certainly welcome

Cap Fed= 42 branches

SSB = 6 branches

I would say Cap Fed is large in comparison and would be able to handle a much larger economic hit!
