This Kansas City Man Has More Heart and Determination than 2 Million People put Together
Yesterday I had a very interesting meeting with a man that has had more heart and determination than a million Kansas Citians put together.Now, you ask why I say this? Read on and you'll read why.
Let me start from when I first met this young man. The man found me on Facebook and requested to meet me. He needed some help and feltthat with my business networking group and my networking skills I might know of a way to help him. I get request and sales meeting request as the President of the Kansas City Network Group quite often, but this request seemed different and boy was I right.
Through a series of emails we agreed upon a place and time to meet A couple of hours before our appointment the young man contactedme to see if we could move the meeting across town or change the time. Due to other obligations, moving the place wouldn't workfor me, so I agreed to move the time. I was thinking is this worth it and is he going to be a no show.
I arrived at our meeting place, the Shawnee Panera, a little early so I started making phone calls in the parking lot. During the middle of one call, I received a phone call and the young man that I was meeting was on the other end of the conversation. He said he was just pulling up. How could he, the only vehicle pulling up was a yellow cab. If this guy can't afford a car in Kansas City, how is he going to start a business?
Sure enough it was him in the taxi. I recognized him from his facebook profile picture.
After grabbing some coffee we sat down. We started with a 15 minute get to know you conversation. I learned that this guy wanted my help incritiquing his business and help him promoting it. He had gone through law school with 2 genetic eye diseases, developed a Shaking disorder similarto Parkinson's (he can't hold cups or they'll fall out of his hard), has 20/800 eye sight (that is why he can't drive) and paid for a taxicab from his office at Shook, Hardy and Bacon to meet me at the Shawnee Panera. With all of his setbacks this man's has more determination then 2 million Kansas citizens put together. He then was asking me for help promoting his business.
How am I going to help. I'm going to introduce this young man to some people that will help his business grow. I will also educate him on some business networking tools. I will also introduce him to the Kansas City Network Group Technology Seminar that is being held on March 10th at the Shawnee Big Bob's flooring Outlet.
If you meet this young man and hear his story, you'll be inspired. He has an inspiring story. He could easily stay at home and get disability checks and have society provide for him. He could use many excuses for staying at home. He is blind and has a muscular disease. There are many other obstacles this man has also overcome. Instead he is learning how technology can help him to be super great in business.
Today, I drove by 3 retail office buildings that 11 Olathe, Kansas businesses once operated. They have closed down, probably because they haven't embraced technology. I'm around business owners everyday that don't do the little things to build their business. If you haven't embraced technology it is not too late to start and you can start by attending the Kansas City Network Group's Technology Seminar.
