A Movie Producer Contacted Me This Morning and Needs Some Help . . .Can You Help?

A movie producer contacted me this morning and asked me for some help. He said that he was working on inking a deal on filming a movie here in Kansas City.  He didn't tell me what the film was about other than it was an action film ( my son recognized his box hit movies). He was asking for help on getting things started. First he needed a four bedroom apartment or home to lease for about 3 months to get things started in KC. Next, he needed to scout for an apartment complex for the crew to live in for at least 6 months and could be as long as 18 months. He said he would be in town to scout the area and wanted to view scenic and hot spots in KC. He is also looking at Austin, Little Rock and Louisville.

Currently he was in Europe in the middle of a project. He said he excited that the NCAA tournament was going on and he asked about the Kansas Jayhawks and if they will win it all this year. He said has never been to Lawrence but would like to one day. He asked how far Lawrence was from KC and when I told him it was a 20 minute drive from the suburbs he said that it would be really cool to get some scenes of the KU campus. Don't worry K-State and Missouri fans, we talked about those campuses also. If Kansas City is chosen he said that he'll start the end of the year.

Does anyone know of a large 4 bedroom home that can be leased in KC for 3 months starting in June? He needs it to send a crew to get things started. Internet accessibility is a must. It can be in Kansas or Missouri.

Does anyone know of a large apartment complex that can be used? It can also be in Kansas or Missouri.

What do you think is the most scenic place in KC?

What is the hottest spot in KC? Examples

Please respond to this blog post. He will be sent the responses weekly. He'll need access to construction crews, painters, transportation services, food vendors and everything else needed for a movie set and supporting a mini city. Who do you know that might be able to help when the time comes?

Oh yeah, how can I forget to mention. The movie producer said his production assistant found me on Google, then looked up my profile on Facebook.

Please review comments for ideas. The movie producer will view and it seems that the production assistants are responding to comments.

Chris,

Constructiona crews are no problem, I know several of them that are very good and could staff a very large project.

Triad construction comes to mind first. They are very good, when given a challenge, or time line they always come through!

Case Contracting in Chillicothe (not to be confused with Case Construction)is also very good and would be able to handle the special requests of a movie company.

Painters, well I know a few of them too...LOL

What style of buildings are needed for the mini city?

Any certian types of scenic views? (Rocky, rolling hills, or do you know?

Looks good Chris. You are living up to your billing and you work fast (no pun intended). Boss man is impressed with your networking and technology skills. We found your website on nearly every Google search here in Europe. Just wanted to let you know.

Also, actually there are too many conflicts with Austin and it really between KC and Louisville.

How about those Hawks! I don't have them in my brackets but I'm pulling for them.

We are kinda excited about going to KC. Everybody we meet from there is incredibly nice. Says a lot about the city. Thanks for the help. Talk to you soon!

I would be happy to help in any way possible!  I can't help much with the living situation or construction, but I am all over the city constantly.  What kind of scenic settings are you looking for?

As far as the hottest spot in KC, right now it would have to be the Power and Light District and the Sprint Center downtown for food and entertainment. The Plaza is also a good hot spot.  To narrow it down, need to know more details on what the main interest is.  Feel free to email if I can help.

I believe I replied to the wrong post before... I can rent my 4 bedroom this June located at 70 Terrace and Ward Parkway. A very beautiful scenic area and a quick ride to all over... Old KCMO still has the original trees and architecture.

All the fountains in Kansas City are a total plus for filming and lets not forget the Nelson-Atkins Museum.

I remember the producers of Mr & Mrs Bridge rented the house next mine... It was a ball!

Chris,

Have them contact Oakwood Corporate Housing, 12910 Barkley, Shawnee Mission, KS 913-322-1428.

Either of these should be able to provide temp housing and find a complex to use.

I'll add to what Chris wrote. He is being a little vague due to disclosure issues. We are looking for cool spots to do some great action scenes like a car chase and so forth. Chris mentioned the Power and Light District, Plaza and Westport and a few others. Does anyone know of a real cool place I can scope out while I'm there? A cool building, church, park and so forth. Some scenic places would be cool, too. Chris recommended the Ozarks and Branson. Those places aren't too far and would be places we will scout out. Regarding leading actors and actresses, I think we have that taken care of. We will be looking for extras though.

The Plaza has a little of everything. There is a pretty good size park with one of the cities largest water fountains. There are several churches in the area. And the architecture sets it apart from other spots in the city.

How fun!

Scenic areas:  Cedar Creek area on K10, bluffs just north of the Downtown airport near Briarcliff, Parkville, all of Ward Parkway around plaza and just South, area around WWI Memorial & Union Station.

Hot Spots:  We love 18th & Vine for all the live music.

I have always thought that the Missouri river with the Kansas City skyline would be a cool scene. Down the streets of the KU campus in the fall would provide a perfect backdrop.

KC deserves this . . . It is a great place to live, work and play. Since I have moved here, I wouldn't think about moving. Some of the small towns up North are pretty cool. Weston, Liberty, Jamesport and the town were the hotsprings are at would make good scenery spots.

Just west of Emporia in the Tall Grass Prairie/Flint Hills or around Manhattan is also scenic in its own stark, rolling prairie way.  Plenty of room for car chases.  Rolling roads could make for some good "airborn" scenes.

There is an old "castle" house in KCK, on the  north hill above I-35. Historic place in need of renovation I think.  I'd have to roll by again to get the name of it and the address.

Being an extra would be fun.  It would look great on my childrens theatre/vacation bible school theatre resume'. LOL.  Not to mention I could then compete with my parents, who had "Children of the Corn 47" (or something like that) filmed in their alley.

Why would a movie company contact a Realtor? A Chamber of Commerce or City agency would be more helpful.

The best spots in KC is the BBQ joints. There are so many good ones. The lakes in Missouri provide scenery.

Production Assistant,

The Ozarks & Branson are near the Mo, AR boarder & nowhere near Kansas City. When do you plan to come here for scouting?  Swope Park might be good for some things. Of course tossing in many of our landmarks like Union Station, Liberty Memorial, Worlds of Fun Theme Park, the KC Zoo Ape house to name a few. I'm also sure there are many here who would be more than willing to rent out a room. I can check my complex to see what's open & I'm sure something can be worked out on the lease. Very interesting. I can see why you would have been contacted. You are all over the web. I would like to have my website get your kind of placement on Google. Who is your webmaster? I'm paying mine $2000 a month and don't get near the results.

I like the Westport area. It has a story and a film producer could probably bring it out.

Thanks for commenting everyone. We would really like more input.

Regarding when they plan on being here. They are looking to come in June. At that time they need a four bedroom home for at least 3 months.

When the whole crew they need an area to house 200 people. They would like a small apartment.

Thanks for noticing Jack. My webmaster is my 13 year old son. He is really adapting to this web stuff. Yesterday he wrote a really cool program to upload his   Facebook and Twitter Tweets without the internet. This past weekend I've been preparing stats for NBC Action News. He wrote some cool stuff to find some cool stats. Kids are amazing. Oh yeah, this first when trying to rank real high is add your website address into the comment.

Saw this post on twitter looks like it could really be something interesting. My company could easily remodel a 4 bedroom house to meet their needs and then rent it out to them on a month to month basis.  I would say that the hotspot to look at would be the plaza or power and light.  If your interested give me a call 816-372-7855.

Chris,

I don't think they are going to find ONE place with 50-100 openings. Would they be open to spreading out a bit?  Would a 2 & a 3 Br Apt. or 2 2br. Apt. Work in place of the house? How about the crew housing MUST it be in ONE location or clusters of several nearby locations?

I suppose it would be wise to know the time period the film will be set. If it is modern, I would highly suggest the downtown Power and Light district. 60's - 80's, possibly Kansas City, Kansas. The more details we can get would allow for better suggestions. Please, let me know who will be handling the extras casting. I would like for my son to have this experience, as I have been a part of a couple films shot in the area several years ago.
