I know this is a big football town and I know how most people will answer this question, but I'm going to ask it anyways. Do you plan on watching the Kansas City Chiefs or the Tour of Missouri on Sunday?
For the KC Chiefs it is the first game of the regular season. Some football analysts have said that the chiefs will not even win 7 games. I know that if you have tickets you will probably be heading to Arrowhead Sunday. For those that will not be heading to Arrowhead, will you DVR the game and head downtown?
Why downtown? Many of the cyclist from the Tour de France will be invading downtown for a 71.4 mile race in the last stage of the Tour of Missouri. This is a chance to see a high quality cycling event right here on our door steps.
So, I'm asking you again. Will you watch the Chiefs play another heart breaker game or watch some exciting fast action professional cycling this Sunday? There will be many places along the route to catch some great views and there are 4 or 5 venues that will be hosting carnival like parties along the route.
Prime Viewing Spots fo the 2009 Tour of Missouri Stage 7 on Sunday 9/13
Crown Center/Union Station
With the Start/Finish on Grand Blvd. north of Pershing Rd. and the Health & Wellness Expo in Washington Square Park, this will be the hub of activity. The route heads south on Grand through Crown Center before cutting back down Main to Pershing and past Union Station, providing two viewing opportunities just one block apart.
Penn Valley Park/Liberty Memorial
A natural bowl, lots of wide open spaces and a nice climb up Kessler Road will make this a great viewing spot. As an added bonus, the 217-foot-tall Liberty Memorial provides a scenic backdrop. Look for a King of the Mountain line at the top of the hill.
Summit Street/Westside
The street lives up to its name with a serious climb leading to a King of the Mountain line at the top near 17th Street. Expect a festive atmosphere as the Mexican-American community of the West Side neighborhood should provide one of the most spirited crowds of the day.
Sprint Center/Power & Light District
After a $5 billion renaissance, Downtown KC is ready for its close up. The route will pass Sprint Center and wind through the new eight-block Power & Light District, which features more than 40 bars and restaurants. Look for a Sprint Line on Grand Blvd. between 13th & 14th streets.
Berkley Riverfront Park/ River Market
