A tequila tasting for the animals! Join us onWednesday, May 2 from 5 - 7 pm for the "happiest" hour around. Taste tequillas and meet animals from around the South and Central American regions in the Zoo's Discovery Barn. Meet some of these animals up-close during the Zoo Keeper Chats; munch on tasty appetizers; go down the slide and be entertained. (Water, soda, beer, wine and tequilla will be avaialble at the bars; tasting, two drink tickets, appetizers and entertainment are included in registration.) Bring your friends to this 21 year and older event; only $20 for FOTZ Members, $30 for non-FOTZ Members. Reservations are preferred.

The name of the Olathe Marathon changes to the Garmin Marathon In a move that probably has stunned very few people, the Olathe Marathon has changed its name to the Garmin Marathon.
The Garmin Marathon, which will be held on April 21 of this year, will include a half-marathon, a 5K race and a fun run for kids.
The course, as it has in the past, will start and end at Garmin's corporate headquarters at 1200 E. 151st Street in Southern Olathe, Kansas.
The course route will be posted on Garmin Connect in the next few weeks.

Fireworks and Festivals: 1) KC Riverfest on July 3rd and 4th with the fireworks display on the 4th at 10:05 pm. The festival is held at Berkley Riverfront Park in Downtown Kansas City. 2) Corporate Woods Star Spangled Spectacular starts on the 4th with a free concert. Dubbed as the biggest fireworks display in Kansas City, this fireworks display is in Corporate Woods. Corporate Woods is just south of 435 and west of Antioch. 3) Independence Fireworks Display at the Mormon Visitor Center is on the 4th of July. Due to very little parking, arrive early. 4) Smithville Marina Fireworks Display is held on the 4th at the Smithville Marina at dusk. 5) Parkville 4th of July Fireworks and Festival is held on the 4th. Despite the flooding, Parkville is moving on with their fireworks display. Park Hill South should be a great spot to watch this years fireworks display. A festival will be going on July 3rd. 6) Worlds of Fun will be hosting their fireworks display on July 4th. 7) Booms and Blooms Fest at Powell Gardens will be hosting their fireworks display on July 2nd. 8) Independence Day 19th Century Style at the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm in Olathe, KS. on June 30th. 9) Legacy Blast Fireworks in Lee's Summit, MO. on July 1st at Legacy Park. 10) Leawood 4th of July Celebration on July 4th. at the Leawood City Park. 11) Fireworks and Salute to the Union at Ft. The Overland Park, Kansas Jazz in the Woods in Corporate Woods benefits 3 local charities
This years Jazz in the Woods will be held on June 24th and June 25th at Corporate Woods. Each year, 3 local charities that specialize in helping area youth, benefit from the proceeds raised with Jazz In The Woods. In 2011, Operation Breakthrough, Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center, the Love Fund for Children, and the Overland Park South Rotary Foundation will be the recipient. Also this year there will be a Jazz in the Woods Run/Walk. This year no outside coolers or animals will be allowed. Downtown Olathe Arts Festival is this weekend, June 11 and 12 Downtown Olathe will play host to visual artists from across the region this weekend for the inaugural Downtown Olathe Arts Festival June 11 and 12 at the intersection of Park and Cherry Streets. The juried art festival features over 70 visual artists including emerging artists and artists with disabilities. The event will also include live musical entertainment, an interactive children's activity tent, and a variety of food and concessions.
The Arts Festival is open p.m. on Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm will honor the 150th anniversary of the Civil War on Thursday June 9th from 6-8 pm with a free Family Fun Night
Visitors can participate in a Civil War march and drill, learn about artillery and life in a Civil War camp and try their hand at "writing home" with a real ink pen. Visitors can also make a spy wheel or make a piece to take home in the blacksmith's shop. As always, visitors can see what's cooking on Mrs. Mahaffie's stove and try their skills at a variety of games typically played by children in the 19th century. Stagecoach rides around the site will be available; donations of $2 per person are suggested for stagecoach rides.
The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm will host free Family Fun Nights every Thursday night in June and July. The events feature free admission and stagecoach rides. A fee applies to some special activities. Each Thursday night visitors can participate in hands-on activities associated with a different aspect of 1860s history. New this year, the first 100 visitors can collect a different Mahaffie animal trading card. Attend each week to collect all eight. Weekly themes are: * Cowboy Night - July 7 * Civil War - June 9 and July 14 * 19th Century Technology - June 16 and July 21 * Kansas Farming - June 23 and July 28 The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm is located at 1200 Kansas City Road. The historic site iis open with living history activities and stagecoach rides 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays. This year, KCRiverFest will be held on Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3 from 1:00pm – 11:00pm, with both days full of live music on multiple stages, carnival rides and games, delicious food, fun entertainment, local vendors and top-notch fireworks.
Tickets are $10.00 at the gate or $8.00 if bought in advance online. KCRiverFest is happy to welcome the Lowery Carnival Company to the riverfront. With more than a dozen carnival rides, tons of games and fun activities, there's something for everyone at KCRiverFest.
