  • Taxi Cab Drivers in Kansas City May Strike During the MLB All-Star Game in Kansas City. Here is why . . .

Regulation once again. This time for the taxi cab driver. Many believe that the taxi cab drivers need to be regulated because of their aggressive tactics. So why do we care if the taxi cab drivers strike?

Kansas City will soon host the MLB All-Star baseball game, but players and attendees may find getting transportation around Kansas City a little difficult because of a believed cab driver strike.

Taxi Cab driver's are asking a federal judge to declare KC's taxi cab ordinance unconstitutional. The ordinance in questions limits the number of cab companies serving the area to nine. What that means for area taxi cab drivers is that they can never hope to own their own taxi cab business. Larger cities like Dallas and Los Angeles have nine or fewer taxi cab companies due to their regulation.

In addition, taxi cab drivers, who typically own their own taxi cabs and the required vehicle maintenance, must purchase a permit from one of these nine companies to operate for over $13,000.  Yep, the same permit that the taxi cab owners purchase for under $375.  Drivers are then at the mercy of these cab companies for fairs, often having to wait hours between fares.

Drivers warn that if the law is not over turned they will go on strike during All Star week.

  • Here is a Plan to Help Save the Lives of our Children in Kansas City

Here is a Plan to Help Save the Lives of our Children in Kansas City

Here's an idea that's so good, we wish we'd come up with it ourselves. Not only is it creative and effective, but it also helps save the lives of children.

Did you know approximately 70% of all children killed or injured by motor vehicles are struck within blocks from their own homes?

Did you know an average of 4 children age 14 and younger were killed and 500 were injured every day in the United States in motor vehicle crashes during 2009?

Well, now there's something small you can do to raise awareness and save lives. Enter the "Drive Like Your Kids Live Here" project. Designed to help end distracted driving, raise awareness of children in our neighborhoods, and reduce the number of senseless pedestrian deaths, this program encourages you to post signs which simply state "DRIVE LIKE YOUR KIDS LIVE HERE."

It's a simple, powerful message, and one we think deserves some recognition. To learn more about
Drive Like Your Kids Live Here, check out their website:

You can buy the signs themselves, learn how to help, organize fundraisers, and learn more neighborhood safety.

  • If you live in Olathe, Kansas . . . Checkout this government website on preparing for natural disasters

If you live in Olathe, Kansas . . . Checkout this government website on preparing for natural disasters

Perhaps the one thing more precious to Kansas City home owners than their homes is the health and happiness of their family. Natural disasters can take both away in an instant. Tornado's, hail storms, floods, blizzards, and earthquakes are all part of living on this planet. We can’t prevent them, but we can do our best to prepare for them.

Lets keep our families safe . . .

Take a moment to show you care by visiting the government natural disaster preparedness website, Ready.gov. The government site contains a wide range of information on types of natural  disasters and how to prepare for them. One of the most important things you can do is prepare a “Disaster Kit” to get you through the first few days after a major disaster. The site contains information to help you do just that.

Be prepared for major natural disasters for the sake of your family and friends:

  • 9 Mistakes that can Blow the Home Sale

I read an interesting article on Fox Business News about the 9 mistakes that can blow the home sale.

It was interesting the the first 2 were not preparing the home and over-pricing. I definitely agree that these are important. The Fox Business News article is a good article for home owners to read prior to selling their home.

The one point I think the article missed was home owners hiring the right real estate agent to sell their home. Hiring the wrong agent can be costly.

  • A Real Estate Joke - Asking for a Charitable Donation

A burly man visited the pastor’s home and asked to see his wife, a woman well known for her charitable impulses.
“Ma’am,” he said in a broken voice, “I wish to draw your attention to the terrible plight of a poor family in this neighborhood. The father is dead, the mother is too ill to work, and the nine children are starving. They are about to be turned into the cold, empty streets unless someone pays their rent, which amounts to $1200.”

“How terrible!” exclaimed the pastor’s wife. “May I ask who you are?”

The sympathetic visitor applied his handkerchief to his eyes. “I’m the landlord,” he sobbed.
