The ABC television program “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is considering several families in the Kansas City area for an extreme home makeover.
Extreme Makeover will kick of their next build with an “Extreme Makeover Pep Rally” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Blvd. The Pep Rally will showcase M.A.C. Corporation and Canyon Creek Construction, LLC, co-builders and primary partners for this project, who have been selected to carry out the build. The Pep Rally will also highlight trade partners, volunteers and key participants. One thing is for sure, Kansas City knows how to celebrate the 4th of July. If you're looking to view fireworks . . . You may want to view my list of the Top 18 Kansas City 4th of July Fireworks Displays.
1) Fireworks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas 4 p.m. Garnett Avenue at Merritt Lake, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Concessions, games, concert, "Salute to the Union" at 8 p.m. and fireworks at dusk over Merritt Lake. Rain date = July 5 Click here for more information.
2) 4th of July Fireworks at Gardner Edgerton High School in Gardner, Kansas starting at 6 p.m. 425 North Waverly Road, Gardner, Kan. 66030 Celebrate our nation's independence with an evening of tailgating, family fun and fireworks! Tailgating begins at 6:00 p.m. with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, soda and water. Proceeds from the tailgating will benefit Festival on the Trails. 3) Celebrate Independence! in Independence! July 4 - 5, Fireworks approx. 9:30 p.m. Independence Square, Truman Library, 500 U.S. 24 Highway, Mormon Visitors Center, 937 West Walnut Begin your day with a patriotic children’s parade from 23rd street up Main to the Square at 10 a.m. The Harry S. Truman Museum and Library will offer reduced admission on July 4 and on the 5th, historic re-enactors and 1860s crafts for kids. 9) Booms & Blooms 9 p.m. - dark Powell Gardens, about 30 miles east of Kansas City on U.S. Highway 50. On Friday afternoon, live music begins at 7:30 p.m. the Lee’s Summit Symphony takes the stage. Worlds of Fun has one of the longest standing 4th of July celebrations in the metro. Watch fireworks from within the park or by parking on the east side of I-435 (not recommended!). The fun starts at 10pm.
15) Smithville Marina Fireworks Display
Smithville Marina holds it's annual festivites with a huge display shot off the Smithville dam. View at the marina, by boat, or at the Smith's Fork Park. Fireworks will be set off at dusk on July 4th.- Where: Smithville Lake, Smithville, MO. Smith Fork Park is located at 1601 DD Highway.
16) City of Basehor July 4th Festival
Food and concessions available beginning July 4th at 5:30 p.m. Parade on 155th Street from Leavenworth Road to Parallel Parkway at 6:00 p.m. Games, activities and music, followed by color guard and fireworks at about 9:15 p.m. Basehor-Linwood High School, 155th Street and Parallel Parkway.
17) City of Fairway & Westwood July 4th Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. at Bishop Miege High School, 5041 Reinhardt, Roeland Park.
18) Mahaffie 19th Century Fireworks & Band Concert. This event is July 1st July 1st, from 7-9:30 p.m. Fireworks begin at dark. Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site, 1200 Kansas City Rd., Olathe. Free admission, stage coach rides are $2 per person.
