The PGA Tour
will return to the Kansas City area in 2011 at the Nicklaus Golf Club in Overland Park, Kansas.
The PGA Tour event features 156 golfers playing 72 holes in four days. The purse is $550,000.
The event will be hosted by the Kansas City Crusaders
, a nonprofit formed in 2009 to support local charitable organizations by promoting professional golf in the Kansas City area.
“Having been part of the 2009 Nationwide Tour event and witnessing the economic impact that the tour can bring to a city was all it took for the Crusaders to step up to make Kansas City a permanent tournament destination,” Crusaders President David Byrne said in a release.
Bill Calfee, Nationwide Tour president, said he appreciated the first-class work of the Crusaders for the 2009 tournament. He said the golf course and staging were excellent, spectator support was strong and the competition exciting. He said he looked forward to working with the Crusaders again.
“With their full support, we believe all the elements are in place for a successful long-term event that will have a very positive community impact — a great market, a solid venue, a well-organized and energetic host organization, and a deserving charity in Children’s Mercy Hospital,” Calfee said in the release.
