MU Fan dressed only in Kansas State Briefs sings K-State Fight Song in Olathe For the past couple weeks I have been a nervous wreck. Why you ask?
I let a $10 bet turn into a near embarrassing situation.
After the MU Tigers basketball game loss at Kansas State, I have been in a lively discussion with a Missouri Fan. We started with a $10 bet that escalated into a much bigger bet.
If K-State lost, I had to wear MU clothes in a MU Bar and Grill and sing the MU fight song during the Kansas and Missouri game on Saturday. If MU lost, the MU fan had to wear only K-State briefs and sing the K-State fight song at a busy Olathe intersection.
As the game got closer last night, the more nervous I got. My teenage sons didn’t help. They kept reminding me that MU is ranked #3, is out for revenge since the last loss and is undefeated at home.
Days leading up to the game I lost sleep. I also became very nervous because my singing skills are atrocious. If you want wallpaper to peel and your windows to crack, I’m your man.
As the game started, I stayed out of my media room. Most of the first half I was downstairs in the kitchen with the TV pointed away from me and the volume down. I got brief updates from my teenage boys. From the sounds my boys were making, MU was raining 3's. The start of the game didn’t look so good for my Wildcats and I think I spent a lot of time in the bathroom.
While I was in the kitchen, I prepared spaghetti for dinner and a few desserts for after dinner.
Towards the end of the first half my boys yelled down to me that K-State is looking better.
Since this blog post is not really about the game, I’ll get to the point. K-State Won!
The win really took a lot of stress off of me. For the past 2 or 3 weeks, you see, I had a MU fan harrassing me and rubbing crummy MU stats down my email.
Now onto the bet and the juicy part of this blog.
I printed off the K-State fight song this morning and headed to Olathe to watch the MU fan wear only KSU briefs and sing the K-State fight song. I had my camera ready.
On a normal winter day, this would be really bad hard because of the weather. Today, though, the weather was in the 60’s. Standing in briefs should be no problem. If he didn't find KSU briefs, I communicated to him that purple briefs or briefs with a Wildcat on them was ok.
Armed with the lyrics of the K-State fight song, I met a couple friends at an Olathe intersection. We all stood at different corner of the intersection.
While I waiting for the black Ford F-250 pickup truck with a MU flag, I noticed that a couple K-State fans pulled up. About 15 minutes into my wait, a reporter/photograher from KSHB-41 pulled up.
During my 75 minute wait, the KSHB reporter/photographer shot a couple shots of the intersection and interviewed me a couple times.
I’m very confident that the MU fan was watching me, because I saw a truck that looked like the truck the MU fan had identified he would be driving. The truck was spotted going through the intersection a couple times, doing a u-turn on Santa Fe and parking at the end of the Kohl’s parking lot (the driver never got out).
My wait ended by calling the MU fan a welcher on camera because he never showed up. Maybe the cameras scared off this Missouri fan. What do you think?
Since I left the Olathe intersection I have received a few calls from the media and Wildcat fans wanting the name of the MU welcher. Should I reveal who this welcher from Missouri is on my blog? Will Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys get Served in New York this Weekend? It is believed that the Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant will be served during the first half this weekend when the Cowboys play the Giants in New York due to another lawsuit. Why during the first half. Many times he disappears during the second half.
The Boston Herald reports that Endurance Capital Fund, a New York-based company finances luxury items like cars and yachts for high profile athletes and entertainers, is suing Dez Bryant because it says he borrowed $100,000 and has refused to repay the full amount he owes. “This was a simple transaction with a loan agreement and promissory note reviewed by Mr. Bryant’s advisors and signed by Mr. Bryant,” the company said in a statement. “We held up our side of the bargain, now we are simply asking that Mr. Bryant follow through with what he promised to do. We have reached out to everybody from Mr. Bryant’s agent to his mortgage broker to try to get this debt repaid. Everyone acknowledges the debt, but nobody will come forward to repay it. This is a unique and disappointing experience. We have never had a client refuse to repay their debt before.” To date, Dez Bryant, has not been able to have been served. That might change when the Dallas Cowboys visit the New York Giants this weekend. I can just see it now. Dez takes the field and and he enters the huddle, a process server serves Dez. That would make interesting tv won't it? Hmm . . . what is it with the millionaire athletes who skip out of their debts? I can understand a struggling person living paycheck to paycheck, but not a high profile sports athlete. What is Dez's advisers doing for him?

Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs Pro- Bowlers Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson That is right. If you haven't heard, Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson were selected to the Pro Bowl.
"We're excited about the news we heard yesterday that Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali were elected to the Pro Bowl," Crennel said, via NFLN. "It's an honor. Both guys have worked extremely hard in the class room, practice field and on the field. It's always nice to be recognized by the voters."
The Pro Bowl voters were made up equal parts of fans, coaches and players.
"Both men are appreciative of it," Crennel continued, "and they're appreciative of their teammates because they know they can't do it by themselves."
If you watched any KC Chiefs games this year, you would have seen both defensive players hustle on every play.
Congratulations Tamba and Derrick! Kansas University first hired Charlie Weis from Florida. Charlie negotiated a good salary for the assistant coaches. The first coach Charlie hires was Tim Grunnard from Bishop Miege in Roeland Park, Kansas. Tim was the head football coach of the Miege Stags and a former Kansas City Chiefs football player. My Gardner Trailblazer's have played the Stags a couple times over the last couple years and I think Tim did a wonderful job representing the Stags. I always liked his demeanor on the sidelines.
Now that Tim is headed to Kansas University, he may have had some pull to get Tre Parmalee. Tre Parmalee, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound receiver out of Bishop Miege High School, orally committed to the Kansas football team on Wednesday night.
Parmalee is the first commitment for new KU coach Charlie Weis. Parmalee picked KU after de-committing from Northern Illinois. Tim Grunnard is the first hired and Tre Parmalee is the first commitment for KU. I like the idea of getting some of the football talent from the area. This should be good to watch Tim and Tre on the KU sidelines, even though I'm a Kansas State Wildcat.

Kansas University Will Announce Charlie Weis as Their New Coach OK, nobody can deny that Charlie Weis has been successful in his coaching career. He has coached high school, college and at the professional level.
Many people in Kansas City may only know his recent coaching jobs at Notre Dame, his alma matter, at the University of Florida and with the Kansas City Chiefs. Charlie has also coached for the New York Giants and the New England Patriots. Later today, the University of Kansas, will announce Charlie Weis as their new head football coach. In order to build a top notch college football program, Charlie will need to find a winning formula. With the lack of 4 star high school recruits in Kansas, Charlie will need to find recruits from other states and from the junior college ranks. That means Charlie will need to out recruit Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas and instate rival Kansas States. Do you think Charlie Weis will find a winning formula for Kansas? Bubba Starling is more than an athlete.
Yes, I know he is an incredible baseball, basketball and football player. Not only can he run the 40 yard dash fast (4.36 - That is faster than I can get down the driveway), he won the Simone award in Kansas City for being the most outstanding Kansas City high school football player. The All American Baseball player projected to be a Top 6 Major League Baseball draftee is more than a sports star.
Bubba Starling as called Gardner, Kansas home. Gardner is a city 30 miles Southwest of Kansas City. His real name is actually Derek but everyone in Gardner calls him Bubba. He got the name from his sis and aunt when he was younger. He is more than a sports star.
He is one heck of a generous kid. Well on his way to becoming a generous young man.
The past year Gardner has been riddled with automotive tragedies. Three Gardner kids died and a few more hospitalized. Bubba on more than one occasion visited kids at the hospitals. He offered get well wishes and signed Gardner-Edgerton stuffed bears. He even talk to other kidos in the hospital. I witnessed the kids who knew him as well as the kids who didn't know at the hospital light up with huge smiles, despite their injuries. One little girl who had been in the hospital for a few months was suffering from severe injuries. I had never seen her happy throughout the weeks I had visited my niece and nephew. The next day after Bubba had come through her hospital wing, she was in the art room designing a card for Bubba. I asked if she knew Bubba and she said, "No, but my daddy showed me an article about him and it made me happy that such a famous person said HI to me."
One day Bubba visited the hospital while most people were warned to stay in. The streets were icy and the city was in a major snow storm. Most kids were probably playing video games. After a routine Saturday practice, Bubba and his family traveled over 40 miles in the bad weather to visit a couple injured Gardner kidos.
In addition to Bubba's kind heart at the hospital, Bubba would pull out a marker after ball games and spend time putting pleasure on little kids faces by signing pictures, Gardner Edgerton memorabilia or balls.
My son played on the freshmen Gardner-Edgerton football team this past year. Between the practices of numerous photographers, ESPN news crews and sports writers, my son would tell me stories aboutBubba. Rather than acting as a prima donna sports star, Bubba would act more like a leader offering pointers and helping out underclassmen. He never raised an antic on or off the field. Matter a fact, Bubbawas very quiet and almost shy at times.
People in sports nations call him "a once in a lifetime athlete." People in Nebraska are hoping to call him their next quarterback and out fielder.
People in Kansas City are hoping to call him their next George Brett.
Bubba's baseball coach says Bubba is the best outfielder in Kansas City and that includes the Royals. Former Husker coach, Tom Osborne, wrote Bubba a hand written letter to Bubba saying that he as the potential to win the Heisman. People in Gardner call him " a Wonderful Ambassador to Gardner."
Tonight as the MLS draft starts on TV many in Gardner will wonder about Bubba's future.
Will Bubba forgo the instant million dollar signing bonus to play football and baseball at the University of Nebraska or take the millions and go on to MLB? Either way, Bubba, will most likely go down in the history books.
Most people only know Bubba for his athletic ability.
I’d bet most people in Gardner, including his parents are most impressed by the way he conducts himself off of the field....
