Share your story . . .
RE/MAX International has launched a 10-week social media contest that runs until the end of July that encourages people who relocate to share their stories about life’s most pivotal moments.
To enter, participants of the “ What Moves You?” contest post a story, photo and/or video to the contest website, http://whatmovesyou.remax.com. Entries will be voted on by the public, so contestants are encouraged to make their stories as moving as possible – whether it’s about a new job, addition to the family a job transfer or a tragic event – whatever gets people looking to buy or sell a home.
In addition to the contest, RE/MAX LLC will donate $1 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals for each submission.
The ongoing voting will determine eight weekly winners, who will receive a $750 Apple gift card. From that group, the grand-prize winner will be determined from the final week of voting. The $10,000 grand-prize will be for the submission entry that receives the most votes from the final week of voting.
Contestants can enter any one or a combination of the following: Story (500 words maximum) Video (3 minutes or less; must provide a YouTube or other video-sharing link) Photo (JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF or TIFF not to exceed 10MB) RE/MAX sells more homes than any other real estate company. For a reason...should we talk?Another blog post written by:

Holy smokes! Plenty of fantastic activity on board for Kansas Citians this weekend! Whether you’re a die-hard sports fan, or the kind of person who wants to pitch in and help those in need, we’ve got the right opportunity for YOU!
Cancer Crawl-The Crawl For Cancer ™ has a unique mission to host events that raise money to help people affected by cancer and other disabilities. We are doing what we can to help those in need. Since the creation of the Crawl For Cancer in Kansas City in 2001, it has had an impact far beyond anything we envisioned when we first started it. With the help of all our volunteers, we have been able to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the people in need! Art for Kids-Combine kids, the arts and nature and you have ARTS for KIDS, a unique event for children, ages 2-12. During this fun-filled event, children will be introduced to the wealth of creative materials that nature provides, along with the pleasures of the Children's Garden at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Adults and children will create nature crafts, go on a hay wagon ride, learn about animals in their natural habitat, participate in a puppet show, listen to local musicians, play games and more. For $6 per person, ages 2 and over, it's a bargain that will help children learn how to use common elements creatively, including leaves, pine cones, hedge apples and rocks. Not much going on at The Sprint Center Dinosaurs Unearthed!-The exhibit will explore the theory, supported by fossil discoveries in 1996, that some dinosaurs had feathers and were ancestors to modern birds. Several of the animated models, including a juvenile T. Rex, have feathers. The exhibit also has five life-size reproductions of articulated dino skeletons, including one 62 feet long, and more than 40 other fossil reproductions. Kansas City Royals vs. Tampa Bay Devil Rays-The Kansas City Royals will host Fan Appreciation Night presented by Sprint on Saturday, October 2. During the annual event, the club will salute fans with great prizes throughout the game as the Royals host the Tampa Bay Rays. Game time is set for 6:10 p.m. This looks like ablast, especially as the Fall chill sets in! BIG BUGS-We've got ants in our plants and swarms of family fun as Dave Rogers' Big Bugs returns to Powell Gardens, Kansas City's botanical garden! See the new 10-foot-tall daddy long legs and 10 of his oversized friends, all made from natural materials. Kids will enjoy the "I Dig Bugs" sand pit, a child-sized ant hill, a native insect "Crawleseum" and more. Special activities are planned on opening day and different bugs are highlighted on Saturdays throughout the summer. American Royal Barbecue- Attend the world's largest Barbecue Contest! Over 500 teams compete for fame and prizes. Proceeds go to the American Royal Education & Scholarship Fund. Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s-The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $300 million for the cause. Memory Walk is a festive community event that joins friends, family and co-workers as they walk to end Alzheimer’s. Participants can walk the 1 or 3-mile route individually or as a team (must consist of a minimum of 5 people). In 2009, more than 200 teams participated and our goal for 2010 is for 250 teams to walk together on October 2nd. NASCAR AT THE KANSAS SPEEDWAY! OReilly Auto Parts Qualifying Day, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series are all this weekend! RE/MAX presents The Kansas Lottery 150, on Thursday of this week! Friday, June 25
The Kansas City Power & Light District is hosting their third Downtown Art Annual event this weekend. The event will have a wide variety of artwork from local and regional artists for sale. It will take place from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday and noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday. The Zeros, a 80's band, will also be playing a free show on the KC Live! Stage at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
Head out to Crosstown Station on Friday night for J’Adore Burlesque, which will feature performers including Gogo McGregor, Foxy LeFeelion, Mimi Leyu, Swifty Deeds and Greta Garter. This event promises to have games, prizes, smiling, laughter and titillation.
The 1980s favorite and highly quotable Ferris Bueller’s Day Off will be showing for free at the City Market at 9:00 p.m. You should definitely see this movie because life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss it.
The Great Lenexa Barbeque starts with over 200 contestants at the Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park (87th & Lackman Rd).
Saturday June 26Grab some delicious and nutritious locally grown produce at your local farmers' market. Farmers’ markets in the area include City Market, Brookside, Merriam, Shawnee, Overland Park, Platte City and Spring Hill. Blueberries, cherries, eggplant, green beans, peppers, peaches, plums, sweet corn, tomatoes and zucchini are in season, and therefore particularly delicious, right now.
Filmmakers up for a challenge this weekend can participate in One Night Stand, a 10-hour filmmaking contest hosted by the Independent Filmmakers Coalition of Kansas City. The challenge is to shoot, edit and screen a short film in just ten hours. Anyone interested in participating in the challenge should bring $30 and this form (PDF) to the Just Off Broadway Theatre for registration at 9:00 a.m. Movie lovers are encouraged to attend the screening at 8:00 p.m. at the Just Off Broadway Theatre. Tickets are $5 at the door for IFCKC members and $10 for non-members.
Meteorologists are predicting that it’s going to be around 95 degrees on Saturday, and that’s before the humidity makes things that much more miserable. We can think of no better way to make the most of this situation than by attending an ice cream festival. The Ice Cream Dreamery festival will be taking place on Saturday at the Crown Center Square from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Tickets for the event are $5 for each individual person or $10 for a family of four, and proceeds of the event will go to the Children’s Place, which helps victims of child abuse, neglect and other trauma. The event will have family-fun live music, a tallest ice cream cone competition and more.
The Great American Family Campout is happening at Shawnee Mission Park. Go to the site for details: Great American Campout
Don't forget the Lenexa BBQ contest is still going on. Sunday, June 27Kansas City’s largest vintage car show will take place on Sunday at the Kansas City Art Institute campus from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Art of the Car Concours is a benefit for student scholarships at KCAI. This year’s event is featuring President Woodrow Wilson’s 1919 Pierce-Arrow limousine, which has been restored to full working order. There will also be vintage motorcycles, bicycles, race cars and fire trucks in the show. Tickets are $12 each, or $10 if you buy them online in advance. Kids 10 and under are free.
The Duck Derby will take place at Brush Creek on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. benefiting Children’s Therapeutic Learning Center. Brush Creek will be flooded with racing rubber ducks competing for prizes that include concert tickets and one lucky duck will win $1,000,000. Ducks can be adopted for $5 each, or at discounted rates if you adopt multiple ducks. There will also be entertainment such as food vendors, live music, hair and face painting and inflatable play equipment.
